The Book of Psalms Illuminated

Update: Errors found in the Psalms Illuminated! An errata is available to download.

In hardcover, 208 pages A4 landscape, The Book of Psalms illuminated presents the entire collection of Psalms in the English Standard Version of the Bible, for meditative study.

Each psalm is given both room to breathe and colour illustration/s, to give readers space to reflect and to ponder its imagery, and laid out to celebrate the patterns of its poetry.

Over 250 full-colour illustrations of Australian landscapes and their inhabitants, feathered, furred and flowered, draw on the poets’ own images in their songs of trust and hope – written and for singing in oppression and tragedy, and in thanksgiving ‘in all the changing scenes of life’.

Five ancient sets or Books; and five Australian regions pictured – but not as straightforwardly as one per Book! – Tasmania; The Kimberley WA; Gariwerd (The Grampians) Victoria; The Red Centre, NT and The Hunter NSW.

The volume concludes discussing the artist’s exploration of the psalms and their commonly-used words, and for each psalm, (very) brief notes and title of its illustration connecting it to the text. It is not a commentary, but rather alerting readers to aspects of the songs that impacted me.
