Introducing The Book of Psalms illuminated – Launch Dates Inside

In joy and grief, doubt and shining trust in the LORD their God, the ancient Hebrew poets expressed in their psalms the experience of those on the journey of faith. This book is a window inviting you to see them afresh and sing them today: the poets’ images transplanted into Australian soil, and their poetry celebrated in the patterns of the text.

In hardcover, 208 pages, Psalms illuminated elegantly presents the entire collection in the English Standard Version, with over 250 full-colour illustrations of Tasmania, the Kimberley WA, Gariwerd (The Grampians) Victoria, the Red Centre NT, and the Hunter, NSW.

The volume concludes discussing the artist’s exploration of the psalms and their commonly-used words, and for each psalm, (very) brief notes and title of its illustration connecting it to the text.

Christmas 2016

Hello,

Here we are again on the road to Christmas.

There are five new Christmas card designs ready to go! And there are a couple of old favourites too.

I’d love to support you introducing a friend to the One behind Christmas. So if you’d like a complimentary copy of John Illuminated to give away, place an order of $30 or more and I’ll include the book (please make a request in the order comments).

My year has been spent working on the Psalms, and I now have a mockup of text and visual concepts up to the end of Book 4 (Psalm 106) and some lovely photos of Tasmania and the Red Centre to inform them. Next year the paintings!

First few pages (draft 5!)

Twee, but…

2 Gold Awards!

Last year, I entered the second annual Book illumination award competition, run by American book marketing company Jenkins Group, ‘honouring the best Christian-themed books published during the year’ and written in English.

Recently, John illuminated was awarded gold in the category keepsake/gift/specialty; and The Scrolls illuminated the gold medal for ‘enduring light–Christian thought’ for an earlier publication than 2014.

Jenkins explains,

With the motto, ‘Shining a Light on Exemplary Christian Books’, the Illumination Book Awards are intended to honour the best books published during the past year with a Christian worldview. The diverse topics and styles of the 2015 medal-winning books reflect the diversity of Christianity today. The 77 winning books came from 28 different US States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and France.

How about that?

Give a Christmas present that explains our Christian joy!

Coming up to Christmas, why not have a look what I’ve done this year (and before)?

Books: Both John illuminated and The Scrolls illuminated present the God we celebrate at Christmas.

Cards: I have added new cards for 2014 to the collection, which present Jesus’ coming in a thought-provoking and unexpected way. And there are some old favourites back in stock. Check all these out on the Store page.

PS: if you’d like to know more about my journey to produce John Illuminated, have a look at the discussion here.
